What are Employability Points?

Administrator and Assistant at the Hub

I have taken on this role this year as the administrator and assistant within the hub. This role was interesting because it has aloud me to see the inner workings of the hub which I had previously only experienced from a student perspective. It has shown me the amount of work that goes into the Hub and gas has aloud me to gain huge amounts of skills. This role has aloud me to produce marketing campaigns, attend meetings with external companies, use and produce documents which have been sent to superiors in the university. This role has aloud me to organise and help with the follow through of events and has aloud me to help occasionally with elements of EP, which only gave me an appreciation for the work that also goes into the EP scheme. This role has taught me a huge amount, and as a first year student has really helped me to develop and learn.

Hub Ambassador

I have taken on this year the role of ambassador for the Hub for Innovation and Enterprise. I have really enjoyed being in this role, It has really pushed me. As an ambassador I had to do shout outs, leafleting, and social media campaigns. I had to reach out to a vast amount of people and interact with almost all the societies on campus and had to appear confident and collective in front of crowds. I’ve also had the chance to meet some of the brilliant students who benefitted from the hub in the pre mentioned burger and business. This role has taught me to be even more confident, it has allowed to network with huge amounts of students and has taught me to be persistent in the pursuit of a goal.

The Venue

I have taken on a part time job in the night club on campus The Venue. The job has taught me to be persistent and gas thrown me into a situation which at first I was neither comfortable now familiar with, but has taught me so far the importance of working on and relying on your team. It has made me more adaptable, and has taught me new skills, boosting my confidence greatly.

Burger and Business

As a hub ambassador I hosted a fort nightly event, which gathered students of a like mind together. Burger and Business, provided students with food, drink and a social place to chat about potential business ideas, as well as a sound board for ideas they were developing. Students even connected and helped each other for example a photographer would link up with a business selling goods on an app. This fort nightly event was very successful and students each time brought new and exciting ideas it was a pleasure to host it each time.

Hackathon

The Hackathon is an upcoming event, which I have organised collaborating with OBE Paul Swaddle who is hosting the event. Students will be given 48 hours to develop an app, then will present in front of judges on the third day. The event has personally been very rewarding and quite challenging to organise I have faced a huge amount of blunders on the way, but it has taught me to be resilient and has taught me to push myself.

Disruptive Conference

The Disruptive Conference was a conference based on the idea of trends of tomorrow, asking how does technology change things? The conference had five speakers Dan Maudhub founder and CEO of Wonderful, Gen Ashley founder of TECH(K)NOW, Adam Henderson writer and speaker of The Modern Workforce and The Changing World of Work, Andy Settle European lead for Cyber Incident Response Operations and Johnathan Grubin founder and CEO of SoPost all of whom were brilliant and provided unique perspectives on the changing world of tech, as well as their own stories of success. As part of the Hub, I helped in the running the event, it was very successful for both networking and for providing all with an insight from the experts. I feel I very much benefitted from the speakers advice and was encourage to be more proactive after the event.

EIRA Weekender

As part of my role in the Hub for Innovation and Enterprise, I attended and help to run the weekender which brought together  around sixty students from five universities to an events Centre in Norfolk. The weekend consisted of getting students to create a business idea on the basis of the EU Sustainable Development Goals, and also allowed students(and staff!) the chance to take part in various activities with the premise to build the students network. My role was essentially to ensure the follow through of the event went smoothly, but also to provide advice and a sounding board to students for their ideas. The weekender was overall a success and was a very rewarding experience not only because of the vast array of students who I was able to meet, or because of the fear I was able to overcome by doing some of the actives. It was a success because by the end you could see how those who participated, who are the beginning were all strangers and isolated to the university they arrived with, had integrated and made groups of friends. It also was brilliant to see how students developed over the weekend and to see their ideas brought to life in their presentations.

Innovate IT

Innovate IT was a competition sponsored by SAGA, whom posed the questions to students how can new technology grow our business? As an ambassador for the launch of this competition I attended the launch and was able to network. By the final of the competition  I was the administrator for the Hub for Innovation and Enterprise who collaborated with SAGA to make this happen. Meaning that during the final I ensured that the event ran through smoothly, and ensured all peoples were in the right place for their presentations. It was rewarding observing and seeing the competition unfold especially because I was able to see the impact that it had on the students who participated. It made them more confident, it allows them to explore there brilliant ideas and it aloud them to really develop.

MUN society

As part of Model United Nations, I took part in various activists including debates on various policies on crime and the beliefs that various countries take on such measures. I also took part in workshops on public speaking and how to present yourself as calm and collected in front of a crowd.
